How to get beautiful getting ready wedding images

How to get beautiful getting ready wedding images by Wedding Photographer Alexandra Vonk

Finally the morning of your wedding day is here! It is one of my most favorite parts of your wedding day to photograph. These mornings are full of joy, laughter, happy tears and excitement. To ensure you will end up with some stunning getting ready images I would love to share some tips.

Getting ready location

Your surroundings are key! Since I am a natural light photographer it is so important that you choose a room with lots of natural daylight. Get a room that is spacious and has natural colors, think of white, beige and cream. And make sure to cleaning up the space. Everything from suitcases to water bottles and please make sure the bed is made if you are getting dressed in a bedroom.

Gather your wedding details

It is really important to keep all your wedding details together in one place in the bridal suite, so it will be ready to be photographed. Think about your dress on a nice hanger, wedding rings, jewelry, veil, shoes, stationery, bouquet and boutonnieres.

Having a beautiful and unique ring box can help your ring images really stand out. Also it is something you can use after your wedding day as well. It would be great if you can align the floral delivery so I can photograph it with your stunning wedding details before the first look. I would like to take extra time to photograph your wedding stationery, so please send me 2 copies of your whole stationery set to my studio. It makes my job easier to photograph both sides at once.

What do you wear for your getting ready images?

Although comfy pants and t-shirts are very comfortable, you want to wear something more elegant for your wedding images. Opt for a beautiful white lace robe. If you are wearing a wedding dress with a low back please do not wear a bra I the morning. It will leave strap marks into your skin and it will take a time before you don’t see them anymore.

If you are having bridesmaids it is very cute to have them wear matching robes. Make sure to have all the getting ready outfits ironed or steamed the evening before.

Putting on the dress

The exciting moment is finally here. You can finally get into your dress!! Confirm with your hair and make up stylist that your bridesmaids will be finished with their looks. Also make sure that your girls are completely dressed so that when the time is there for you to step into your dress, everyone will look at their best.

Plan enough time

Make sure that you plan enough time for your getting ready so that I can capture some beautiful getting ready shots of you with your bridesmaids, some images with your parents and some stunning portraits of you. Too many times I have experienced a stressed bride running around. The hours before your wedding should be calm, relaxing and fun!

Cheers to a joyful morning!
